Maryland Master Plumber License


The Maryland Board of Plumbing issues statewide licenses for plumbing contractors. Plumbing is regulated at the state level in Maryland.


Requirements


  • Experience: Minimum 7 years of plumbing experience, including time as a licensed journeyman
  • Examination: Must pass the state Master Plumber exam
  • Insurance: General liability and workers' compensation insurance
  • Application Fee: $70

Renewal Information


  • Renewal Period: Every 2 years
  • Renewal Fee: $87.50
  • No CE Required: Maryland does not require continuing education for master plumbers (CE applies only to plumbing inspectors)

Master plumbers can install, maintain, and repair plumbing systems including water supply, drainage, gas piping, and fixture installation throughout Maryland.

  • Master Plumber: Can supervise and contract for plumbing work
  • Journeyman Plumber: Can perform plumbing work under supervision
  • Apprentice: Learning under journeyman/master supervision
