    File through Maryland State Fire Marshal and pay the $200.00 renewal fee once the supporting proof is ready.

    Typical processing time is 30 days, so do not wait until the last minute.

If you miss the deadline, the late penalty is $300.00, with a 30-day grace period.

Maryland Fire Protection Contractor License


The Maryland State Fire Marshal licenses contractors who install, maintain, and repair fire protection systems including sprinklers, fire alarms, and suppression systems.


Requirements


  • Certification: NICET certification required
  • Examination: Must pass the state fire protection exam
  • Experience: Documented fire protection system experience
  • Insurance: General liability and workers' compensation insurance
  • Application Fee: $300

Renewal Information


  • Renewal Period: Every 2 years
  • Renewal Fee: $200
  • No CE Required: Maryland does not mandate state CE hours for fire protection contractors (NICET certification maintenance is separate)
  • Late Penalty: $300 per COMAR 29.06.05.04
