Idaho Public Works Contractor License (Class A)


The Idaho Public Works Contractors License Board issues Class A licenses for contractors who bid on publicly funded construction projects. Class A is a mid-tier classification with bid limits determined by the contractor's net worth and working capital.


What This License Authorizes


Class A Public Works Contractors may bid on and perform state and municipal publicly funded construction projects up to the dollar limit set by their license class. The class is determined by the company's financial qualifications.


Insurance Requirements


  • General Liability Insurance: Required per project specifications
  • Workers' Compensation: Required if you have employees

Examination


Applicants must pass the Idaho Public Works Contractor examination. The exam fee is $75 (non-refundable). A score of 70% or higher is required.

Consequences of Operating Without a License


Performing public works construction valued at $50,000 or more without a valid license violates Idaho Code Title 54, Chapter 19. Penalties include fines, contract voidability, and disqualification from future public bids.
