Idaho Electrical Contractor License


The Idaho Electrical Board, under DOPL, licenses electrical contractors who provide electrical installation, alteration, and repair services. Any person or entity offering electrical contracting services must hold this license.


What This License Authorizes


Licensed Electrical Contractors may provide electrical contracting services including installation, alteration, and repair of electrical systems in residential, commercial, and industrial settings throughout Idaho.


Key Requirements


  • Must employ at least one full-time Idaho Master Electrician
  • General Liability Insurance: Required
  • Workers' Compensation: Required if you have employees

  • No Continuing Education Required: As of April 2025, CE is no longer required for electrical license renewal in Idaho

Consequences of Operating Without a License


Performing electrical contracting work without a valid license is a misdemeanor in Idaho. Violations may result in fines, license revocation, and civil liability for damages caused by unlicensed work.
