Idaho HVAC Contractor License
The Idaho HVAC Board, under DOPL, licenses HVAC contractors who install, alter, and repair heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems. Applicants must have worked as a licensed HVAC journeyman for at least 24 months before applying.
What This License Authorizes
Licensed HVAC Contractors may perform HVAC installation, alteration, repair, and maintenance work on residential, commercial, and industrial properties throughout Idaho.
Bond and Insurance Requirements
- Compliance Bond: $2,000 surety bond required, must remain active for the full license period
- General Liability Insurance: Required
- Workers' Compensation: Required if you have employees
Prerequisites
- Must have worked as a licensed Idaho HVAC Journeyman for at least 24 months
- Must pass the HVAC contractor examination

Consequences of Operating Without a License
Performing HVAC contracting work without a valid license is a misdemeanor in Idaho. Violations may result in fines, work stoppage orders, and liability for damages caused by unlicensed work.
