Idaho Specialty Electrical Contractor License


The Idaho Electrical Board issues the Specialty Electrical Contractor license for contractors who perform limited or specialty electrical work, such as low-voltage wiring, sign installation, or other defined specialty areas.


What This License Authorizes


Specialty Electrical Contractors may perform electrical work within their designated specialty area. This license covers specific categories of electrical work rather than full-scope electrical contracting.


Key Requirements


  • Must employ at least one licensed Specialty Electrical Journeyman in the applicable specialty
  • General Liability Insurance: Required
  • Workers' Compensation: Required if you have employees

  • Application Fee: $15
  • License Fee: $125
  • Renewal Fee: $100 per year

  • No Continuing Education Required: As of April 2025, CE is no longer required for electrical license renewal
