Wyoming Master Electrician License
The Wyoming State Fire Marshal's Office issues the Master Electrician license to experienced electricians who have demonstrated advanced knowledge and capability in planning, laying out, and supervising all types of electrical work.
What This License Authorizes
Master Electricians may plan, lay out, and supervise all electrical work. They are qualified to serve as the master of record for an Electrical Contractor license, assuming responsibility for NEC compliance on all work performed by the contracting company.
Experience and Examination Requirements
- Total Experience: 16,000 hours of electrical work experience
- Journeyman Requirement: At least 4 years (8,000 hours) must be served as a licensed Journeyman Electrician
- Classroom Training: 576 hours of electrical-related classroom instruction from an approved Department of Labor school
- Examination: Must pass the Wyoming Master Electrician exam based on the current National Electrical Code (2023 NEC)
Reciprocity
Wyoming has reciprocal Master Electrician license agreements with Idaho, South Dakota, and Utah.
Fees
- Application Fee: $200
- Renewal Fee: $100 every 3 years
- Late Renewal Fee: $50 additional fee if renewed within 45-day grace period after expiration
Continuing Education
- Hours Required: 16 hours every 3 years
- Code Requirement: At least 8 of the 16 hours must cover the National Electrical Code (NEC)
- Renewal Deadline: August 15 of the expiration year
Consequences of Lapsed License
If a Master Electrician license is not renewed within the 45-day grace period after expiration, the licensee must re-apply and pass the licensing examination again. A $50 late fee applies to renewals within the grace period.
