Wyoming Low Voltage / Limited Electrical Contractor License
The Wyoming State Fire Marshal's Office issues the Low Voltage / Limited Electrical Contractor license for companies that perform low voltage electrical work (systems under 90 volts) or limited electrical work (load-side work on specific equipment such as HVAC systems, elevators, or similar).
What This License Authorizes
This license authorizes a company to perform low voltage installations including alarm systems, data and communication wiring, fire alarm systems, sound systems, and similar low voltage work. Limited contractors may work on the load side of the disconnect for specific equipment types.
Insurance Requirements
- General Liability Insurance: Required, with a certificate of insurance on file
- Workers' Compensation: Required if the contractor has employees
Application and Renewal
- Application Fee: $200
- Renewal Fee: $200 annually
- Expiration: All low voltage / limited contractor licenses expire on July 1 following the date of issue
Employment Requirements
Low voltage and limited contractors must employ technicians who hold the appropriate Wyoming Low Voltage Technician or Limited Technician license.
Consequences of Operating Without a License
Performing low voltage or limited electrical work without a valid contractor license violates Wyoming Statute 35-9-123. The Electrical Board may refuse, suspend, or revoke licenses for violations.
