Detailed notes
The fine print is here.
Wyoming Electrical Contractor License
The Wyoming State Fire Marshal's Office issues the Electrical Contractor license — the required business-level credential for any company performing electrical work in Wyoming. The annual fee is $400 to apply and $400 at each renewal, and all licenses expire July 1 regardless of when they were issued.
Master of Record: the gating requirement
Every Electrical Contractor must actively employ, in a full-time capacity, a Wyoming-licensed Master Electrician who serves as the master of record for all work the company performs. That master can hold the role for only one contractor at a time. If your master of record leaves the company, the license must be updated before you can continue operating — this is the requirement that most commonly delays contractor license applications and renewals.
Insurance requirements
The contractor must carry general liability insurance and maintain current workers' compensation coverage for all employees. A certificate of insurance is a required document at application and must remain in force at renewal.
The July 1 expiration cycle
All Electrical Contractor licenses expire July 1 next following the date of issue. A license granted in October and one granted in May both expire the same July 1 — plan for a significantly shorter first license period if you apply mid-year.
Application mechanics
- Application fee: $400
- Renewal fee: $400 annually
- Processing time: approximately 5 business days per processing step
- Required documents: certificate of insurance, Master of Record verification form
- Apply through the Wyoming State Fire Marshal's portal at wyelectrician.imagetrendlicense.com
Consequences of unlicensed electrical contracting
Operating without a valid contractor license is subject to fines or license suspension as stated in Wyoming Statute 35-9-130. The Electrical Board may refuse to issue, suspend, or revoke licenses for violations of Wyoming statutes, board rules, or the National Electrical Code.
