Detailed notes

The fine print is here.

Wyoming Electrical Contractor License

The Wyoming State Fire Marshal's Office, Department of Fire Prevention and Electrical Safety, issues the Electrical Contractor license. This is the primary business-level license required for any company performing electrical work in Wyoming. It is one of the only state-level contractor licenses in Wyoming — most other trades are regulated at the municipal or county level.

What This License Authorizes

An Electrical Contractor license authorizes a company to perform electrical installations, repairs, and maintenance on electrical wiring systems throughout the State of Wyoming. The license covers all voltage levels and all types of electrical work, including residential, commercial, and industrial.

Master of Record Requirement

Every electrical contractor must actively employ, in a full-time capacity, a Wyoming-licensed Master Electrician who serves as the master of record. This individual assumes responsibility for ensuring that the National Electrical Code (NEC) and applicable state rules are followed on all electrical work undertaken by the contractor.

Insurance Requirements

  • General Liability Insurance: Required, with a certificate of insurance on file
  • Workers' Compensation: Required if the contractor has employees; must register with the Wyoming Department of Workforce Services

Application and Renewal

  • Application Fee: $400
  • Renewal Fee: $400 annually
  • Expiration: All electrical contractor licenses expire on July 1 following the date of issue
  • Applications are submitted through the Wyoming State Fire Marshal's online portal

Consequences of Operating Without a License

Performing electrical work without a valid contractor license violates Wyoming Statute 35-9-123. The Electrical Board may refuse, suspend, or revoke licenses for continued or flagrant violations of Wyoming statutes, board rules, or the National Electrical Code.
