Wyoming Journeyman Electrician License
The Wyoming State Fire Marshal's Office issues the Journeyman Electrician license to electricians who have completed the required apprenticeship training and passed the state examination.
What This License Authorizes
Journeyman Electricians may perform electrical installations, maintenance, and repairs under their own knowledge and skill. They work under the general oversight of a Master Electrician when employed by an electrical contractor. Years as a licensed Journeyman count toward the experience requirement for a Master Electrician license.
Experience and Examination Requirements
- On-the-Job Training: 8,000 hours of electrical work experience
- Classroom Training: 576 hours (4 years) of apprenticeship schooling from an approved Department of Labor school
- Examination: Must pass the Wyoming Journeyman Electrician exam based on the current National Electrical Code (2023 NEC)
Reciprocity
Wyoming has reciprocal Journeyman Electrician license agreements with Alaska, Arkansas, Colorado, Idaho, Maine, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Dakota, Texas, and Utah.
Fees
- Application Fee: $100
- Renewal Fee: $50 every 3 years
- Late Renewal Fee: $50 additional fee if renewed within 45-day grace period after expiration
Continuing Education
- Hours Required: 16 hours every 3 years
- Code Requirement: At least 8 of the 16 hours must cover the National Electrical Code (NEC)
- Renewal Deadline: January 1 of the expiration year
Consequences of Lapsed License
If a Journeyman Electrician license is not renewed within the 45-day grace period after expiration, the licensee must re-apply and pass the licensing examination again. A $50 late fee applies to renewals within the grace period.
