Detailed notes
The fine print is here.
Wyoming Apprentice Electrician Registration
The Wyoming State Fire Marshal's Office requires all apprentice electricians to register before performing electrical work in the state. This is the entry-level registration for individuals beginning their career in the electrical trade.
What This Registration Authorizes
Registered apprentices may perform electrical work under the direct supervision of a licensed Journeyman or Master Electrician. The level of supervision required decreases as the apprentice progresses through their training:
- Years 1-2: 100% supervision (must work alongside a licensed electrician at all times)
- Years 3-4: 50% then 25% supervision as skills develop
- Year 5+: 25% supervision until journeyman exam eligibility
Registration Requirements
- Must register within 10 days of beginning employment with a licensed electrical contractor
- Government-issued photo identification required
- Must be enrolled in or planning to attend an approved apprenticeship program
Fees
- Application Fee: $20
- Renewal Fee: $20 annually
Apprenticeship Progression
The apprenticeship track requires 8,000 hours of on-the-job training and 576 hours of classroom instruction from an approved Department of Labor school over approximately 4 years. Upon completion, apprentices are eligible to sit for the Journeyman Electrician examination.
Consequences of Working Unregistered
Performing electrical work without a valid apprentice registration violates Wyoming Statute 35-9-123. The Electrical Board may take enforcement action, and employers may face penalties for employing unregistered apprentices.
