Detailed notes
The fine print is here.
Wyoming Apprentice Electrician Registration
Register with the Wyoming State Fire Marshal's Office within 10 days of starting work — that deadline runs from day one of employment, and the Electrical Board enforces it. The application fee is $20, annual renewal is $20, and the required documents are a government-issued photo ID and an employer verification letter from your licensed contractor.
The 10-day clock and why it matters
Working unregistered is subject to fines or license suspension as stated in Wyoming Statute 35-9-130 — and that exposure runs to both the apprentice and the employer. The 10-day registration window begins the first day on the job, not after training ends or a paycheck arrives.
What a registered apprentice can do
Registered apprentices perform electrical installations, maintenance, and repairs under direct supervision of a licensed Journeyman or Master Electrician. Wyoming limits the ratio to one supervising electrician per two apprentices — that ratio applies for the full apprenticeship period.
The path to a Journeyman license
The Apprentice Electrician registration is the first step toward the Journeyman exam. Both requirements must be complete before sitting for the examination:
- 8,000 hours of on-the-job training (approximately 4–5 years)
- 576 hours of classroom instruction from a Department of Labor–approved school
Fees and renewal
- Application fee: $20
- Annual renewal: $20 (July 1 – June 30 cycle)
- Processing time: approximately 5 business days
