Rhode Island Master Plumber License


The Rhode Island Department of Labor and Training (DLT), Division of Professional Regulation, Board of Examiners of Plumbers, issues the Master Plumber license for qualified plumbing contractors.


What This License Authorizes


Master Plumbers are authorized to plan, supervise, and perform plumbing installations, alterations, and repairs. This license allows the holder to operate as a plumbing contractor and to pull plumbing permits in Rhode Island.


Application Requirements


  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of verifiable plumbing experience
  • Journeyman Prerequisite: Must hold a valid Journeyman Plumber license for at least 1 year before applying
  • Examination: Must pass the Master Plumber examination
  • Application Fee: $75 (non-refundable filing fee)
  • License Fee: $240

Renewal Process


  • Renewal Period: Every 2 years (expires on licensee's birthdate)
  • Renewal Fee: $240
  • Continuing Education: 7 hours of approved continuing education per renewal cycle
