Oklahoma Unlimited Electrical Journeyman License
The Oklahoma Construction Industries Board (CIB) issues the Unlimited Electrical Journeyman license, which authorizes the holder to perform electrical installation work under the supervision of a licensed electrical contractor. This is the prerequisite to becoming an Unlimited Electrical Contractor.
What This License Authorizes
Unlimited Electrical Journeymen may perform electrical installation, maintenance, and repair work on all types of electrical systems -- residential, commercial, and industrial -- while working under a licensed Unlimited Electrical Contractor. Journeymen may not contract for work independently.
Requirements
- Experience: 8,000 hours of on-the-job experience in electrical construction work while employed by an electrical contractor. Of these, 4,000 hours must be in commercial or industrial electrical work. Up to 2,000 hours may be satisfied by formal electrical education.
- Examination: Must pass the Unlimited Electrical Journeyman technical trade exam.
Renewal Process
- Renewal Period: Annually, due by the last day of your birth month
- Renewal Fee: $75
- Continuing Education: 12 hours every 3 years (36 months) -- 6 hours of code updates plus 6 hours from approved topics
Consequences of Operating Without a License
Performing unlicensed electrical work in Oklahoma is a misdemeanor punishable by fines from $200 to $1,000 and up to one year in jail.
