Detailed notes
The fine print is here.
Oklahoma Residential Roofing Contractor Registration
The Oklahoma Construction Industries Board (CIB) administers the Roofing Contractor Registration Act (RCRA), which requires all resident and nonresident roofing contractors to obtain a valid registration before engaging in roofing-related services in Oklahoma. The residential registration covers roofing work on residential properties.
What This Registration Authorizes
Registered Residential Roofing Contractors may perform roofing-related services on residential properties throughout Oklahoma. This is a registration (not a traditional license), meaning there is no trade exam required for residential-only work. However, contractors performing commercial roofing must obtain a separate Commercial Endorsement.
Requirements
- No Exam Required: Residential roofing registration does not require passing a trade exam.
- Insurance: Minimum $500,000 general liability insurance that specifically includes coverage of roofing work. The individual registration holder's name must appear on the certificate, with the CIB listed as certificate holder.
- Workers' Compensation: Required unless the contractor has an exemption from coverage.
Renewal Process
- Renewal Period: Annually
- Renewal Fee: $75
- Late Fees: $100 for registrations overdue 31-60 days; $150 for suspended registrations or those overdue more than 60 days
- No Continuing Education: Residential roofing registration does not require CE hours
Consequences of Operating Without Registration
Failure to register as a roofing contractor in Oklahoma is a misdemeanor punishable by a fine of up to $500, which is initiated by the district attorney's office having jurisdiction over the area where the violation occurred.
