Oklahoma Natural Gas Piping Contractor License
The Oklahoma Construction Industries Board (CIB) issues the Natural Gas Piping Contractor license under the mechanical industry category. This specialty license authorizes the holder to work on natural gas piping systems throughout the state.
What This License Authorizes
Natural Gas Piping Contractors may install, alter, modify, service, maintain, or repair natural gas piping systems. This includes running gas lines to appliances, installing gas meters, and connecting gas-fired equipment. This is a specialty license within the CIB's mechanical industry category.
Requirements
- Experience: At least 4 years of verifiable experience in the mechanical trade with focus on gas piping -- 3 years at the journeyman level plus one additional year.
- Examination: Must pass the Natural Gas Piping technical trade exam and a business and law exam.
- Bond: $5,000 Corporate Surety Bond payable to the CIB.
- Insurance: Minimum $50,000 commercial general liability insurance.

- Application Fee: $300
- Renewal Period: Annually, due by the last day of your birth month
- Renewal Fee: $200
- Continuing Education: 6 hours every 3 years (36 months) from CIB-approved providers
- Bond and Insurance: Must maintain current bond and insurance throughout the license term
Consequences of Operating Without a License
Performing unlicensed gas piping work in Oklahoma is a misdemeanor with fines of $500 for the first violation and $1,000 for subsequent offenses. Given the safety-critical nature of gas piping, the CIB actively enforces these requirements.
