Detailed notes
The fine print is here.
Oklahoma Commercial Roofing Contractor Endorsement
The Oklahoma Construction Industries Board (CIB) issues the Commercial Roofing Endorsement in addition to the base roofing contractor registration. Contractors performing any commercial roofing work must obtain this endorsement by passing a certification exam.
What This Endorsement Authorizes
Commercial Roofing Contractors may perform roofing-related services on both residential and commercial properties throughout Oklahoma. The commercial endorsement is required for any roofing work on commercial buildings that is not otherwise exempted.
Requirements
- Base Registration: Must first hold a valid roofing contractor registration.
- Examination: Must pass the Commercial Roofing Endorsement certification exam. First failure allows retesting after 30 days; subsequent failures require a 90-day wait.
- Insurance: Minimum $1,000,000 commercial general liability insurance that specifically includes coverage of roofing work, with the CIB listed as certificate holder.
- Workers' Compensation: Required unless the contractor has an exemption from coverage.
Renewal Process
- Application Fee: $230
- Renewal Period: Every 3 years (in addition to maintaining the annual base registration)
- Renewal Fee: $100 for commercial endorsement renewal
- Continuing Education: 4 hours of approved CE every 3 years (36 months), beginning three years after passing the endorsement exam
Consequences of Operating Without Endorsement
Performing commercial roofing work without a valid commercial endorsement in Oklahoma is a misdemeanor punishable by a fine of up to $500. The CIB actively monitors compliance and investigates complaints.
