    File through North Carolina State Board of Examiners of Plumbing, Heating, and Fire Sprinkler Contractors and pay the $130.00 renewal fee once the supporting proof is ready.

North Carolina Plumbing Contractor License


The Plumbing Contractor license is issued by the North Carolina State Board of Examiners of Plumbing, Heating, and Fire Sprinkler Contractors. This license is required for anyone contracting for plumbing work in North Carolina.


Requirements


  • Examination: Must pass the Plumbing Contractor exam ($75 exam fee, $100 application fee)
  • Experience: Documented plumbing experience
  • Insurance: General liability insurance required
  • License Activation: Submit activation form within 45 days of passing exam ($75 fee)

Renewal Information


  • Renewal Period: Annual (expires December 31)
  • Renewal Fee: $130
  • Late Fee: $25 processing fee after January 31
  • Continuing Education: No mandatory CE (eliminated by the Board in 2012; voluntary CE encouraged)
  • Renewal Window: Opens October 1 (90 days before expiration)

Scope of Work


Plumbing Contractors can:

  • Install and repair water supply systems
  • Work on drainage, waste, and vent piping
  • Install plumbing fixtures and water heaters
  • Perform gas piping installations
  • Pull plumbing permits statewide

License Levels


The Board also issues Plumbing Technician licenses ($75 renewal) for individuals performing plumbing work under the supervision of a licensed contractor.
