    Finish the CE first

    Complete the 8 required hours before you start the renewal.

    File with the board

    File through North Carolina Licensing Board for General Contractors (NCLBGC) and pay the $100.00 renewal fee once the supporting proof is ready.

    Typical processing time is 60 days, so do not wait until the last minute.

If you miss the deadline, the late penalty is $10.00, with a 30-day grace period.

North Carolina General Contractor License (Intermediate)


The Intermediate General Contractor license allows holders to undertake single construction projects valued up to $1,500,000.


Requirements


  • Threshold: License required for projects valued at $40,000 or more
  • Examination: Must pass the NASCLA examination
  • Financial: Audited financial statement showing net worth above required thresholds
  • Bond Alternative: $500,000 surety bond if financial thresholds not met

  • Renewal Period: Annual (by January 1)

  • Late Fee: $10 after December 31
  • Continuing Education: 8 hours per year

Project Limitations


  • Single project maximum: $1,500,000
  • Suitable for mid-sized commercial and residential projects
  • Can upgrade to Unlimited by meeting higher financial requirements

Scope of Work


Intermediate license holders can perform general contracting work on projects up to $1,500,000 in value, including residential and commercial construction, renovations, and additions.
