General Liability Insurance — North Carolina

North Carolina does not mandate a specific minimum for general liability insurance, but the NC Licensing Board for General Contractors strongly recommends it. Most commercial contracts require $1,000,000 per occurrence / $2,000,000 aggregate.

Key Points:

  • Not state-mandated but practically required for licensed work
  • Board recommends GL insurance for all licensed contractors
  • Most GC contracts require $1M/$2M minimum
  • COIs required for subcontractor qualification
  • Annual renewal with carrier
