New Jersey Electrical Contractor License
The New Jersey Board of Examiners of Electrical Contractors regulates all electrical contractors in the state. A state license is required to perform electrical work in New Jersey, including both residential and commercial installations.
Requirements
- Examination: Must pass the NJ electrical contractor exam
- Experience: Minimum 5 years of documented electrical experience
- Insurance: General liability and workers' compensation insurance required
- Continuing Education: 34 hours per triennial renewal cycle
- Application Fee: $100 (non-refundable)

Scope of Work
Licensed electrical contractors may install, alter, repair, and maintain electrical wiring, equipment, and systems in residential, commercial, and industrial buildings throughout New Jersey.
