New Hampshire Mechanical Business Entity License
The New Hampshire Mechanical Safety and Licensing Board, under the Office of Professional Licensure and Certification (OPLC), issues the Mechanical Business Entity License. This license is required for business entities — corporations, LLCs, partnerships, and sole proprietors operating as a business — that install, service, or repair residential and nonresidential gas appliances and other gas utilization equipment in New Hampshire.
What This License Covers
The Mechanical Business Entity License applies to companies performing work in the mechanical trades regulated by the Mechanical Safety and Licensing Board, including:
- Fuel gas piping installation
- Gas appliance installation, service, and repair
- Plumbing contracting (where the business is distinct from the individual licensee)
Individual technicians performing the work must still hold the appropriate individual licenses (Fuel Gas Piping Installer, Installation Technician, Service Technician, or Journeyman/Master Plumber).
Requirements
Applicants must be a lawfully registered business entity in New Hampshire. The application must identify the licensed individuals employed by the entity who will supervise and perform the regulated work.
Fees
Contact the NH OPLC Mechanical Safety and Licensing Board directly for the current fee schedule. Fees are set by board rule and subject to periodic revision: https://www.oplc.nh.gov/mechanical-safety-and-licensing-board
Renewal Process
- Renewal Period: Every 2 years
- Process: Submit renewal application online through OPLC's renewal portal
- Note: License renewals may be submitted up to 90 days before expiration
Relationship to Individual Licenses
The Mechanical Business Entity License is an entity-level license. It does not substitute for individual technician licenses — all regulated work must be performed by individuals holding the appropriate OPLC mechanical licenses.
