New Hampshire Lead Abatement Contractor License

The New Hampshire Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), through its Healthy Homes and Lead Poisoning Prevention Program, issues the Lead Abatement Contractor license. This license authorizes a business entity to engage in lead abatement activities in New Hampshire.

What This License Authorizes

Licensed Lead Abatement Contractors may engage in lead abatement, inspection, risk assessment, and dust wipe testing activities by employing or subcontracting with individually licensed or certified lead professionals. The contractor license itself does not authorize the license holder to personally perform lead activities — that requires individual certification.

Requirements

The contracting business must employ or subcontract with licensed lead abatement supervisors and certified lead abatement workers. The company must maintain appropriate liability insurance and workers' compensation coverage.

Fees

  • Application Fee: $300
  • Renewal Fee: $300

Related Individual Certifications

Individuals performing lead work under this contractor license need their own certifications: Lead Abatement Supervisor ($125), Lead Abatement Worker ($75), Lead Inspector ($100), or Lead Risk Assessor ($250).

Renewal Process

  • Renewal Period: Annually
  • Renewal Fee: $300
  • Process: Submit renewal application with updated insurance and current worker/supervisor certification documentation

Consequences of Operating Without a License

Performing lead abatement work without a valid license violates New Hampshire lead poisoning prevention laws. Penalties include fines and cease-and-desist orders. The DHHS actively enforces licensing requirements to protect public health, particularly for children.
