Detailed notes

The fine print is here.

New Hampshire Electrician Apprentice Registration

Register with the NH Electricians' Board (OPLC) before your first day on any New Hampshire job site — RSA 319-C:7 requires registration before performing any electrical work under supervision.

Register Before Starting Work

You must hold a valid Electrician Apprentice identification card before performing any electrical work in New Hampshire, even under direct supervision. Apply through the OPLC portal at oplc.nh.gov, by mail to OPLC at 7 Eagle Square, Concord NH 03301, or by email to OPLCLicensing4@oplc.nh.gov.

To register you need a high school diploma or equivalent (youth apprenticeship enrollees are exempt), plus confirmed employment under a licensed Master Electrician or a business with licensed masters on staff. No examination is required.

$33 to Register — Renews Annually

The application fee is $33 and renewal is $33. Apprentice cards renew on an annual basis — the prior 3-year cycle no longer applies. Verify the current renewal period directly with OPLC at 603-271-2152 before your card expires.

8,000 Supervised Hours Qualify You for the Journeyman Exam

RSA 319-C:7, II(a) requires completion of 8,000 hours of service as a registered apprentice electrician to qualify for the Journeyman Electrician examination. All hours must be performed under direct on-site supervision of a licensed Journeyman or Master Electrician — apprentices may never work independently. The board may credit approved classroom instruction and prior military service toward the 8,000-hour total.

After Five Renewals Without Advancing, 30 CE Hours Per Year Apply

If you have been registered as an apprentice for five or more annual renewal cycles without advancing to Journeyman Electrician, OPLC requires 30 hours of approved classroom instruction each year before your identification card can be renewed. No CE hours are required during the earlier apprentice period.

Unregistered Work Violates RSA 319-C

RSA 319-C:7, IV requires apprentices to maintain current registration with OPLC before performing electrical work. Failure to register violates RSA 319-C and can result in disciplinary action against the employing contractor by the Electricians' Board.
