Get the filing straight.

    Finish the CE first

    Complete the 12 required hours before you start the renewal.

    File with the board

    File through Nebraska State Electrical Division and pay the $50.00 renewal fee once the supporting proof is ready.

Nebraska Sign Installer License


The Nebraska State Electrical Division issues the Sign Installer license as a specialty electrical license for individuals who install, maintain, and repair the electrical components of signs, including illuminated and electronic signs.


What This License Authorizes


This specialty license authorizes the holder to install and work on the electrical wiring, connections, and controls for signs, including neon, LED, illuminated, and electronic message signs.


Qualification Requirements


  • Experience in the electrical sign installation trade, acceptable to the Board
  • Must pass the specialty examination administered by the State Electrical Division

Fees


  • Exam Fee: $60
  • License Fee: $25 per year of the two-year license period ($50 total for biennial renewal)

Renewal Process


  • Renewal Period: Every 2 years (licenses expire December 31 of even-numbered years)
  • Renewal Fee: $50 (biennial)
  • Continuing Education: 12 hours required, with at least 6 hours on the National Electrical Code

Late Renewal


Expired license holders have a three-month grace period. During this window, renewal requires the license fee plus 10% of the renewal fee for each month past expiration. After three months, the license holder must retake the examination.


Consequences of Operating Without a License


Performing electrical sign installation without a valid license is a Class I misdemeanor, punishable by up to one year imprisonment and a $1,000 fine.
