Nebraska Fire Alarm Installer License
The Nebraska State Electrical Division issues the Fire Alarm Installer license for individuals who plan, lay out, and install fire alarm systems in the state of Nebraska.
What This License Authorizes
Fire Alarm Installers may plan, lay out, and install fire alarm systems throughout the state. This includes the installation and wiring of fire detection, notification, and alarm communication systems.
Qualification Requirements
- At least two years of experience in planning, laying out, and installing fire alarm systems, acceptable to the Board, OR
- Registered as an apprentice working under a Licensed Fire Alarm Installer for at least 2 years
- Must pass the Fire Alarm Installer examination
Fees
- Exam Fee: $60
- License Fee: $25 per year of the two-year license period ($50 total for biennial renewal)
Renewal Process
- Renewal Period: Every 2 years (licenses expire December 31 of even-numbered years)
- Renewal Fee: $50 (biennial)
- Continuing Education: 12 hours required, with at least 6 hours on the National Electrical Code
Late Renewal
Expired license holders have a three-month grace period. During this window, renewal requires the license fee plus 10% of the renewal fee for each month past expiration. After three months, the license holder must retake the examination.
Consequences of Operating Without a License
Installing fire alarm systems without a valid license is a Class I misdemeanor, punishable by up to one year imprisonment and a $1,000 fine.
