Kansas Manufactured Home Installer License

KHRC issues individual manufactured home installer licenses under K.S.A. 58-4216 et seq. — installing any manufactured home in Kansas without one exposes you to civil penalties of up to $1,000 per violation.

Pass KHRC's Exam and Pay $300 to Get Licensed

Applicants must complete a KHRC-certified installation training course and pass the installer examination before applying. The $300 application fee includes the examination. Submit the completed application packet to KHRC's Manufactured Housing Program in Topeka.

3-Year Term; Renew Before Expiration at $300

Installer licenses are valid for 3 years from the date of issue. Renew by submitting a new Manufactured Home Installer's License application with a $300 renewal fee to KHRC before expiration.

Apprentice Installer Path

First-time applicants may start with an apprentice installer license for $75, valid for 2 years and renewable at $75. Apprentice installers must work under the direct supervision of a licensed installer. Both installer and apprentice licenses are issued to the individual — a company cannot share one license across multiple workers.

Penalties for Unlicensed Installation

Unlicensed installation violates the Kansas Manufactured Housing Act. Violators face civil penalties up to $1,000 per violation. Under K.S.A. 58-4222, KHRC may also request the Kansas Attorney General to seek injunctive relief against continued unauthorized activity.
