Kansas Elevator Inspector License

The Kansas State Fire Marshal (KSFM) issues elevator inspector licenses under the Kansas Elevator Safety Act (K.S.A. 44-1801 et seq.). Violations of the Kansas Elevator Safety Act, including inspecting elevators or escalators without a valid KSFM license, carry civil penalties of up to $1,000 per violation under K.S.A. 44-1811.

KSFM Licensure Required for All Kansas Elevator Inspections

A KSFM elevator inspector license authorizes the holder to inspect elevators and escalators throughout Kansas for safety compliance. Inspectors working exclusively within a city or county that maintains its own KSFM-approved local program may hold a local-jurisdiction license instead of a statewide KSFM license.

Application: $250 Fee, Two-Year Renewal Cycle

The application fee is $250. Submit Form 625 through the KSFM Elevator Safety Program at firemarshal.ks.gov/342/Elevator-Safety-Program. Licenses are valid for two years; the renewal fee shall not exceed $250 per K.S.A. 44-1807. Renew before expiration by submitting a renewal application and fee to the KSFM.

Unlicensed Inspection Carries Up to $1,000 Per-Violation Civil Penalty

Performing elevator inspections in Kansas without a valid KSFM license violates the Kansas Elevator Safety Act. Violations of the Kansas Elevator Safety Act carry civil penalties of up to $1,000 per violation under K.S.A. 44-1811.
