Kansas Lead Abatement Contractor License

Any firm performing lead abatement — including removal, encapsulation, or enclosure of lead-based paint — must be licensed as a Lead Activity Firm.
What This License Authorizes
A lead abatement contractor license (Lead Activity Firm license) authorizes the firm to perform regulated lead-based paint abatement projects, risk assessments, inspections, and project designs in Kansas.
Training Requirements
The designated individual must hold current certifications from accredited training programs:
- Lead Abatement Supervisor/Contractor Course (with annual refresher)
- Lead Inspector Course (with annual refresher)
- Training must be from an EPA-accredited provider
Project Fees
A nonrefundable lead abatement project fee of 1% of each project cost or $50, whichever is greater, is payable to KDHE for each abatement project.
Fees
- Application Fee: $500
- Annual Renewal Fee: $250
Renewal Process
- Renewal Period: Annual
- Continuing Education: Annual refresher courses required to maintain individual certifications
Consequences of Operating Without a License
Performing lead abatement work without a valid KDHE license is a violation of state and federal lead-based paint regulations and may result in administrative penalties, fines, and enforcement action.
