Alaska Home Inspector Registration
The Alaska DCBPL registers Home Inspectors under the construction contractor licensing framework. Home inspectors evaluate the condition of residential properties, including structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and other systems, and provide written reports to buyers, sellers, or property owners.
What This Registration Authorizes
Registered Home Inspectors may perform visual inspections of residential properties and provide written reports on the condition of the home's major systems and components. This is an inspection-only registration — it does not authorize performing repairs or construction work.
Bond and Insurance Requirements
- Surety Bond: $10,000 bond required, filed with the DCBPL
- General Liability Insurance: Minimum limits of $20,000 property damage, $50,000 injury/death per person, $100,000 injury/death per occurrence
Application Process
- Application Fee: $100 (nonrefundable)
- Registration Fee: $250 (biennial)
Continuing Education
- 8 hours CE per biennial cycle required for renewal

- Renewal Period: Every 2 years (expires September 30 of even-numbered years)

Consequences of Operating Without Registration
Under AS 08.18.125, operating without valid registration carries an administrative penalty of $1,000 for a first offense and $1,500 for subsequent offenses. Each day of unlicensed work is a separate violation.
