Alaska Electrical Administrator — Unlimited Commercial Wiring


The Alaska DCBPL issues the Unlimited Commercial Wiring Electrical Administrator license to individuals who supervise all types of electrical work, including commercial and industrial installations. An electrical contractor business must have an assigned Electrical Administrator to operate legally.


What This License Authorizes


The Unlimited Commercial Wiring Electrical Administrator may supervise the maintenance, repair, installation, construction, and operation of any and all electrical work subject to the National Electrical Code (NEC). This includes commercial, industrial, and residential electrical systems beginning at the secondary side of a transformer.


Examination


Applicants must pass the Unlimited Commercial Wiring Administrator Exam, which consists of 100 questions with a 70% passing score required. The exam covers the NEC comprehensively across all building types and electrical systems.


Fees


  • Application Fee: $50 application
  • License Fee: $170 (biennial)

Continuing Education


  • 8 hours of continuing education required per biennial renewal period
  • CE must focus on the current NEC or National Electrical Safety Code (NESC)

Renewal Process


  • Renewal Period: Every 2 years (expires December 31 of even-numbered years)
  • Renewal Fee: $170 renewal
  • Continuing Education: 8 hours per renewal cycle required

Consequences of Operating Without a License


Operating as an electrical administrator without a valid license violates Alaska professional licensing statutes. The DCBPL may impose disciplinary action including license denial, suspension, or revocation.
