Alabama Fire Protection Contractor License


The Alabama State Fire Marshal issues permits for fire protection sprinkler contractors who install, inspect, and maintain fire protection sprinkler systems statewide under Chapter 33 of Title 34, Code of Alabama.


Requirements


  • NICET Certification: Must pass NICET Fire Protection Layout Technician Level III exam
  • Insurance: General liability and workers' compensation required
  • Application Fee: $100

  • Renewal Period: Annual (expires September 30)
  • Renewal Fee: $100
  • Late Renewal: Permit becomes null and void if not renewed by expiration; must re-apply with new application fee

Scope of Work


Covers installation, inspection, maintenance, and repair of fire protection sprinkler systems throughout Alabama. Permit holders must present a copy of their permit to local building officials before performing work.
