Alabama Electrical Contractor License
The Alabama Electrical Contractors Board (AECB) licenses electrical contractors statewide. A license is required for any person or company performing electrical installations or alterations.
Requirements
- Experience: Minimum 4 years of electrical experience under a licensed electrician
- Examination: Must pass the AECB electrical contractor exam
- Insurance: General liability and workers' compensation required
- Application Fee: $150
Continuing Education
- Hours: 14 hours per 2-year cycle (at least 7 hours in NEC/NFPA courses)
- Topics: National Electrical Code updates, Alabama amendments, and safety
- Providers: Approved by the AECB
- Carryover: Up to 6 excess hours may carry forward to the next cycle
