Wisconsin Master Electrician License
The Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services (DSPS) issues statewide licenses for electricians. Electrical work in Wisconsin is regulated at the state level.
Requirements
- Experience: Minimum of 10,000 hours of practical electrical experience
- Examination: Must pass the state Master Electrician exam
- Insurance: General liability and workers' compensation insurance
- Application Fee: $265 ($35 application + $30 exam + $200 credential fee per DSPS fee schedule)
Renewal Information
- Renewal Period: Every 4 years
- Renewal Fee: $200
- Continuing Education: 24 hours per renewal cycle per SPS 305.43(8)(b), including NEC code updates (note: residential master electricians have an 18-hour requirement; the general master electrician standard is 24 hours)
- Late Penalty: $25 flat DSPS late processing fee within grace period
