Get the filing straight.

    Finish the CE first

    Complete the 24 required hours before you start the renewal.

    Check the insurance certificates

    Make sure the required policies are current and match what the board or agency expects before you file.

    File with the board

    File through Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services (DSPS) and pay the $200.00 renewal fee once the supporting proof is ready.

Wisconsin Master Electrician License


The Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services (DSPS) issues statewide licenses for electricians. Electrical work in Wisconsin is regulated at the state level.


Requirements


  • Experience: Minimum of 10,000 hours of practical electrical experience
  • Examination: Must pass the state Master Electrician exam
  • Insurance: General liability and workers' compensation insurance
  • Application Fee: $265 ($35 application + $30 exam + $200 credential fee per DSPS fee schedule)

Renewal Information


  • Renewal Period: Every 4 years
  • Renewal Fee: $200
  • Continuing Education: 24 hours per renewal cycle per SPS 305.43(8)(b), including NEC code updates (note: residential master electricians have an 18-hour requirement; the general master electrician standard is 24 hours)
  • Late Penalty: $25 flat DSPS late processing fee within grace period
