Get the filing straight.

    Complete the 24 required hours before you start the renewal.

    Make sure the required policies are current and match what the board or agency expects before you file.

    File with the board

    File through Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services (DSPS) and pay the $2,000.00 renewal fee once the supporting proof is ready.

Wisconsin Fire Sprinkler Contractor License


The Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services (DSPS) licenses contractors who install, maintain, and repair fire sprinkler systems throughout the state. This is a 4-year credential with a $2,000 renewal fee — not a biennial $100 license.


Requirements


  • Certification: NICET certification required
  • Examination: Must pass the state fire sprinkler exam
  • Experience: Documented fire sprinkler installation experience
  • Insurance: General liability and workers' compensation insurance
  • Application Fee: $2,125 ($25 application + $100 exam + $2,000 credential fee per DSPS fee schedule)

  • Renewal Fee: $2,000
  • Continuing Education: 24 hours per renewal cycle per SPS 305.51(7)(c)
  • Late Penalty: $25 flat DSPS late processing fee within grace period

Scope of Work


Licensed fire sprinkler contractors can design, install, inspect, maintain, and repair automatic fire sprinkler systems in commercial and residential buildings throughout Wisconsin.


NFPA Compliance


Fire sprinkler work must comply with NFPA 13, NFPA 13R, and NFPA 13D standards as adopted by Wisconsin. Proper installation and maintenance are critical for life safety.
