West Virginia Specialty Electrician - Single Family Dwelling


The West Virginia Office of the State Fire Marshal issues the Single Family Dwelling Specialty Electrician license, a limited-scope electrical license for work exclusively on single-family residential structures.


What This License Authorizes


Single Family Dwelling Specialty Electricians may perform electrical installations, maintenance, and repairs in single-family dwelling units only. This license does not authorize work on commercial buildings, multi-family structures, or industrial facilities.


Experience and Examination Requirements


  • Experience: Minimum 1 year of experience in single-family dwelling electrical work (may include educational program hours)
  • Examination: Specialty exam based on the 2023 NFPA 70 National Electrical Code, focused on residential applications.
  • Exam Fee: $25 (nonrefundable)
