West Virginia Journeyman Plumber License
The West Virginia Division of Labor issues the Journeyman Plumber certification under WV Code 21-14. This certification authorizes the holder to perform plumbing work and supervise plumber trainees.
What This License Authorizes
Journeyman Plumbers are competent to perform plumbing installations, maintenance, and repairs, and may instruct and supervise plumber-in-training apprentices. Plumbing work on projects exceeding $2,500 additionally requires a contractor license from the WV Contractor Licensing Board.
Experience and Examination Requirements
- Experience: 8,000 hours of plumbing and related work experience required
- Examination: Administered by ProV International. Exam fee is $59.95.

- Renewal notices provided approximately 45 days before expiration.
- A license expired for 90 days or more cannot be renewed and requires reapplication.
Consequences of Operating Without a License
Performing plumbing work without proper Division of Labor certification violates WV Code 21-14. Penalties may include fines and the inability to legally perform or advertise plumbing services.
