    Complete the 1 required hours before you start the renewal.

    File with the board

    File through Virginia Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation (DPOR) and pay the $160.00 renewal fee once the supporting proof is ready.

    Typical processing time is 30 days, so do not wait until the last minute.

If you miss the deadline, the late penalty is $50.00, with a 30-day grace period.

Virginia Gas Fitter License (Tradesman)


The Gas Fitter license is a specialized tradesman license issued by DPOR for individuals who install, repair, and maintain natural gas piping and gas-fired appliances.


Requirements


  • Examination: Must pass the Gas Fitter exam
  • Experience: Documented experience in gas fitting
  • Application Fee: $150

Renewal Information


  • Renewal Period: Every 3 years
  • Renewal Fee: $160
  • Continuing Education: 1 hour per renewal cycle covering the International Fuel Gas Code (IFGC)
  • Late Renewal Surcharge: $50 (reinstatement fee is $210 total if 30+ days late)

Gas Fitters can:

  • Install natural gas piping systems
  • Connect gas-fired appliances
  • Test and inspect gas systems
  • Perform gas leak detection and repair

Gas fitting is a safety-critical trade. Virginia requires specific licensing because improper gas installations can lead to explosions, fires, and carbon monoxide poisoning.
