Montana Elevator Mechanic License — Annual, $150 to Renew
Mechanics who install, alter, repair, or maintain elevators, escalators, and other conveyance equipment in Montana must hold a current individual elevator mechanic license from the Department of Labor & Industry. This is separate from the company-level elevator contractor license.
Three Years of Field Experience and a Written Exam Required
Before applying, you must complete three years of conveyance work experience and pass the elevator mechanic exam. The exam is open-book with a 2½-hour time limit and a 70% passing score requirement. The application fee is $200.
CE: 8 Hours Every Year Before April 1
This license requires 8 hours of continuing education per annual license term. Complete your hours before the April 1 renewal deadline to avoid a lapse.
Renewal: $150 Annually, Expires April 1
The renewal fee is $150. Submit renewal through the DLI online portal; keep CE completion records on hand at renewal time.
