Montana Elevator Contractor License


The Montana Department of Labor & Industry's Elevator Contractors, Mechanics, and Inspectors Licensing Program issues the Elevator Contractor license. This license is required for any business that installs, alters, repairs, or maintains elevators, escalators, and other conveyance equipment in Montana.


What This License Authorizes


Elevator Contractors may install, alter, repair, and maintain elevators, escalators, dumbwaiters, moving walks, and other conveyance equipment in Montana.


Requirements


  • Montana Contractor Registration
  • Proof of liability insurance pursuant to MCA 50-60-716
  • Certificate of Existence or Certificate of Fact from the Montana Secretary of State
  • Application Fee: $600 (non-refundable)

Renewal Process


  • Renewal Period: Annual (expires April 1)
  • Annual Renewal Fee: $600
  • Must maintain current insurance, contractor registration, and Secretary of State filings
  • Renew online through the DLI licensing portal

Consequences of Operating Without a License


Performing elevator installation or maintenance work without a valid license is a violation subject to penalties under Montana law.
