Maine Propane and Natural Gas Technician License
The Maine Fuel Board issues Propane and Natural Gas Technician licenses. This license authorizes holders to work with propane and natural gas equipment within their specific licensed authority categories.
What This License Authorizes
Propane and Natural Gas Technicians are licensed with one or more of the following authority categories:
- Delivery Technician — propane delivery operations
- Plant Operator — propane plant operations
- Tank Setter and Outside Piping — tank installation and exterior gas piping
- Appliance Connection and Service — connecting and servicing gas appliances
- Large Equipment Connection and Service — connecting and servicing large gas equipment
Requirements
- Pass an examination approved by the Maine Fuel Board
- Complete one of the following: certified employee training program of a national propane gas association, or a board-approved propane or natural gas course at a Maine community college or career and technical education center
- Complete a criminal background check ($21 fee)
- Application Fee: $121 (includes $100 license fee + $21 background check)
Renewal Process
- Renewal Period: Every 2 years from date of first licensure
- Renewal Fee: $100
- Late Fee: $50 for renewals up to 90 days after expiration
- Renewals more than 2 years after expiration require a $100 license fee plus $100 penalty fee for reinstatement
Insurance
Insurance is not required by the Board for individual licensure, but is recommended.
