Maine Asbestos Abatement Contractor License
The Maine Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), Bureau of Remediation and Waste Management, issues Asbestos Abatement Contractor licenses. This license is required for any business entity that engages in asbestos abatement activities.
What This License Authorizes
Licensed Asbestos Abatement Contractors may perform asbestos removal, repair, or encapsulation activities. The company must employ one or more DEP-certified asbestos abatement workers, supervisors, design consultants, air monitors, or inspectors.
Requirements
- Employ at least one Maine DEP-certified Asbestos Project Supervisor
- Maintain an up-to-date written worker protection program conforming to OSHA standards
- Carry general liability insurance and workers' compensation insurance
- Application Fee: $650
Regulatory Compliance
All asbestos abatement work must be:
- Performed under controlled conditions to prevent fiber release
- Conducted per a project-specific design
- Cleared to meet the applicable clearance standard
- Waste properly stored in fiber-tight containers and disposed of in a licensed landfill
