Delaware Residential Electrician License
The Delaware Board of Electrical Examiners issues the Residential Electrician license for electricians who work primarily in residential settings. This license is issued under Title 24, Chapter 14 of the Delaware Code and restricts the holder to residential electrical work only.
What This License Authorizes
Residential Electricians may perform electrical work only on or within a residential dwelling or building prior to the dwelling or building being connected to the electric grid, or at or beyond the breaker panel or fuse box. This license does not authorize commercial or industrial electrical work.
Experience Requirements
- Over 4,000 hours of full-time experience under the supervision of a licensed Master or Limited Electrician, OR
- Completion of a Board-approved residential apprentice program
Insurance and Bonding
Contact the Delaware Board of Electrical Examiners directly for current insurance and bonding requirements applicable to the Residential Electrician license — requirements may differ from those for Master and Limited licenses.
Examination
Applicants must pass the Residential Electrician examination administered through the Board.
Continuing Education
Contact the Board of Electrical Examiners for current continuing education requirements applicable to the Residential Electrician license. CE requirements and applicable hours should be verified directly with the Board.
Fees
- Application/License Fee: $105
- Renewal Fee: Notified at time of renewal through DELPROS — the Board does not publish renewal fee amounts in advance
- Late Fee: 50% of the renewal fee, charged after expiration
Renewal Process
- Renewal Period: Every 2 years, expires June 30 of even-numbered years
- Renew online through DELPROS
- Continuing education completion required for renewal
