Delaware Journeyman Plumber License
The Delaware Board of Plumbing, Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Examiners issues the Journeyman Plumber license through the Division of Professional Regulation (DPR). This license authorizes plumbing work under the supervision of a Master Plumber.
What This License Authorizes
Journeyman Plumbers may perform plumbing installation, maintenance, and repair work under the general supervision of a Master Plumber. This is an intermediate license level between apprentice and master.
Experience Requirements
- With Journeyman Certificate: Apprenticeship program completion plus at least 2 years of supervised work experience
- Without Journeyman Certificate: At least 7 years of verifiable work experience under a master licensee
Insurance Requirements
- Journeyman Plumbers working under a Master Plumber's supervision are typically covered under the master's insurance policy
Examination
The Journeyman Plumber exam is open-book with 100 multiple-choice questions and a 4-hour time limit. A passing score of 70% or higher is required.

- Renewal Fee: $173 (biennial)
- Late Fee: 50% of the renewal fee ($86.50)
Renewal Process
- Renewal Period: Every 2 years, expires October 31 of even-numbered years
- Renew online through DELPROS
- CE requirements for plumbers take effect for the 2026 renewal cycle (5 hours)
- May file late renewal up to 1 year after expiration with late fee
