Delaware Elevator Mechanic License
The Delaware Board of Elevator Mechanics, operating under the Division of Professional Regulation (DPR) and Title 24, Chapter 61 of the Delaware Code, issues the Elevator Mechanic license. This license is required for anyone who installs, maintains, repairs, or alters elevators and related lifting equipment in Delaware.
What This License Authorizes
Licensed Elevator Mechanics may install, maintain, service, repair, and alter elevators, escalators, moving walks, platform lifts, and related conveyance equipment throughout Delaware.
Experience Requirements
Applicants may qualify through one of three pathways:
- Certification Pathway: Passing score on the Certified Elevator Technician (CET®) or National Elevator Industry Education Program (NEIEP®) examination
- Experience Pathway: Six years of full-time elevator mechanic work experience, OR 8,000 hours of work experience plus 576 hours of formal training, OR four years of experience plus 6,000 hours of documented technical training
- Reciprocity Pathway: Active license in another jurisdiction with equivalent standards
Continuing Education
- 10 hours of approved continuing education per biennial renewal period (prorated for mid-period licensure)
- CE audit procedures apply; all licensees may be subject to CE compliance verification
Fees
- Application Fee: $200
- Renewal Fee: Notified at time of renewal through DELPROS — contact the Board for the current renewal fee amount
- Late Fee: 50% of the renewal fee if renewal occurs after expiration
Renewal Process
- Renewal Period: Every 2 years
- Renew online through DELPROS (Delaware Professional Regulation Online Services)
- Must complete 10 CE hours per renewal period (prorated if licensed mid-period)
- May file late renewal up to 1 year after expiration with late fee
Consequences of Unlicensed Practice
Performing elevator work without a valid license violates Title 24, Chapter 61. The Board may impose disciplinary action including license revocation and civil penalties for unlicensed practice.
