Arkansas Residential Remodeler License
The Arkansas Contractors Licensing Board (ACLB) issues the Residential Remodeler license for contractors who make major structural changes to single-family residences or add on to existing homes where the project value exceeds $2,000 in labor and materials.
What This License Authorizes
Residential Remodelers may perform structural renovations, additions, and major alterations to existing single-family homes. This includes kitchen and bathroom remodels involving structural changes, room additions, and other significant renovation work. The unlimited license has no project value cap, while the restricted license limits projects to under $50,000.
Application Requirements
- Application Fee: $50 (non-refundable)
- Experience: Minimum 2 years of construction experience required
- Examination: Must earn a minimum score of 70% on an open-book examination covering business law and contractor responsibilities
- Financial Statement: Compiled financial statement and Workers' Compensation proof required for projects of $50,000 or more
- Business References: Three non-supplier or banker references required
Insurance Requirements
- General Liability Insurance: Certificate of insurance in the business name required
- Workers' Compensation: Required if you have employees
Renewal Process
- Renewal Period: Annual
- Renewal Fee: $25
- Late Fee: $50 if renewal is not completed by the expiration date
- No Continuing Education Required: Maintain current insurance throughout the license term.
Consequences of Operating Without a License
Performing residential remodeling work valued over $2,000 without a valid ACLB license is a Class A misdemeanor. Fines range from $100 to $200 per offense, with each day of unlicensed work counting as a separate violation.
