    File through Arizona Registrar of Contractors (ROC) and pay the $590.00 renewal fee once the supporting proof is ready.

Arizona General Residential Contractor License (B-4)


The B-4 General Residential Contractor license allows holders to construct and repair residential structures in Arizona. This is one of the most common contractor licenses in the state.


Requirements


  • Experience: 4 years of practical or management trade experience, at least 2 in the last 10 years
  • Examinations: Statutes and Rules Exam (SRE) and Residential Trade Exam
  • Bond: Surety bond of $9,000 (under $750K volume) or $15,000 (over $750K volume)
  • Recovery Fund: $370 assessment for residential contractors
  • Insurance: General liability and workers' compensation
  • Application Fee: $870 ($180 application + $320 license + $370 recovery fund) (application) + $320 (license) + $370 (recovery fund) = $770 total

  • Renewal Fee: $590 ($320 license + $270 recovery fund) + $270 (recovery fund) = $590 total
  • Bond: Must maintain active contractor's bond
  • Insurance: Proof of workers' compensation at renewal

Scope of Work


B-4 General Residential Contractors can:

  • Construct new residential structures
  • Perform residential renovations and additions
  • Manage residential construction projects
  • Note: Electrical, plumbing, HVAC, pool, and well work must be subcontracted to appropriately licensed specialty contractors

Recovery Fund


Residential license holders pay into the Residential Contractors' Recovery Fund, which protects homeowners from unlicensed or defective work.
