South Dakota Water Conditioning Installer License


The South Dakota Plumbing Commission issues the Water Conditioning Installer license to individuals who perform installation, repair, and maintenance of water conditioning and water treatment systems under the authority of a licensed contractor.


What This License Authorizes


A Water Conditioning Installer may perform installation, repair, and maintenance of water softeners, water filtration systems, reverse osmosis systems, and other water treatment equipment under the direction of a licensed Water Conditioning Contractor. The installer is not authorized to independently contract for services.


Application Requirements


Applicants must pass the specialty installer examination and demonstrate relevant experience. An experience verification form is required.

Renewal


Licenses are renewed annually. Contact the commission at SDPlumbing@state.sd.us or 605.773.3429 for current renewal fee amounts.


Consequences of Operating Without a License


Performing water conditioning work without a valid license is a Class 2 misdemeanor under SDCL 36-25. Penalties include fines and potential criminal prosecution.
