South Dakota Plumbing Contractor License
The South Dakota Plumbing Commission, within the Department of Labor and Regulation, issues the Plumbing Contractor license to businesses that contract for plumbing installation, repair, and maintenance work. South Dakota requires state-level licensing for plumbing contractors under SDCL Chapter 36-25.
What This License Authorizes
A Plumbing Contractor license authorizes the holder to enter into contracts for plumbing work with property owners, including installation, repair, and maintenance of plumbing systems in residential, commercial, and industrial properties.
Requirements
The contractor must have a licensed master plumber on staff (plumber of record). The business must also meet bonding and insurance requirements.

- General Liability Insurance: Required (amounts may vary by jurisdiction)
- Workers' Compensation: Required if you have employees
