South Dakota Water Conditioning Contractor License


The South Dakota Plumbing Commission issues the Water Conditioning Contractor specialty license to businesses that contract for the installation, repair, and maintenance of water conditioning and water treatment systems.


What This License Authorizes


A Water Conditioning Contractor may enter into contracts and perform installation, repair, and maintenance of water softeners, water filtration systems, reverse osmosis systems, and other water treatment equipment that connects to the plumbing system.


Application Requirements


Applicants must pass the specialty examination and demonstrate relevant experience. An experience verification form signed by a licensed contractor is required.

Licenses are renewed annually.

Consequences of Operating Without a License


Performing water conditioning work without a valid license is a Class 2 misdemeanor under SDCL 36-25. Penalties include fines and potential criminal prosecution.
