South Dakota Sewer and Water Contractor License
The South Dakota Plumbing Commission issues the Sewer and Water Contractor specialty license to businesses and individuals who contract for the installation and repair of sewer and water lines. This is a specialty license separate from the full plumbing contractor license.
What This License Authorizes
A Sewer and Water Contractor may enter into contracts and perform installation, repair, and replacement of underground sewer and water service lines connecting structures to municipal water and sewer systems. The scope is limited to sewer and water work only.
Application Requirements
Applicants must pass the specialty examination and demonstrate relevant experience. An experience verification form signed by a licensed contractor is required.

Licenses are renewed annually.

Consequences of Operating Without a License
Performing sewer and water work without a valid license is a Class 2 misdemeanor under SDCL 36-25. Penalties include fines and potential criminal prosecution.
